Fasting and Praying

What is Fasting?

Fasting is abstaining from all food or nourishing substance that is eaten or drank. In the absence of food and in conjunction with prayer you are drawing God to your cries and concerns. Fasting is a process of concentration and meditation. In fasting you must consecrate yourselves, setting apart all natural, mental and emotional barriers. As you sacrifice all substances the body needs you are demonstrating the greater need for God to handle your request or situation. You must stay committed, focusing on God and never doubt him knowing that he's able to keep and sustain you.

What is Prayer?

Prayer is requesting help and expressing devotion; giving praise, thanks and worship. Prayer is one on one time we spend with God; we commune with him, not just speaking but listening as well. By praying we form a strong relationship with him; knowing him; respecting him, and loving him. In having a relationship with God our communication grows and we are more confident that he hears and will answer our cry.

We will follow the fasting process based on Daniel 1:10-13. We will eat a meal of fruit/vegetables with a cup of juice and plenty water during the hours of 7AM-3PM. Consecrate yourself to God during those hours and God will continue to provide you with the blessings and guidance you need.

10. "but the official told Daniel, "I am afraid of my lord the king, who has assigned your food and drink. Why should he see you looking worse than the other young men your age? The king would then have my head because of you."

11. Daniel then said to the guard whom the chief official had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah,

12. "Please test your servants for ten days: Give us nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink.

13. Then compare our appearance with that of the young men who eat the royal food, and treat your servants in accordance with what your see."

Be Blessed!

 Prayer and Fasting Petition

Theme: "This Year Will Be Different"

Scripture: Proverbs 18:20-21

The trouble and despair that our nation is in at this time will only be changed when the people of God come together fasting and praying. The bible states in Matthew 17:21 "Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting."

The people of God have to remember and know assuredly that we have a friend in Jesus. The old hymn says..."All our sins and griefs to bare. It is a privilege to carry EVERYTHING to God in prayer."

So we will do just that and carry everything to God in prayer. We will consecrate ourselves during this time and come together at a set time to pray. We believe God. I'll pray for you. You pray for me and we will both watch God change things.

Fasting

“When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face,so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. - Matthew 6:16-18

Praying

“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. - Matthew 6:5-8
